Record+Upload: Step by Step

To keep things fair and easy to review, all participants must use Loom to record and YouTube to submit their video. Below, you’ll find step-by-step instructions for both.

Loom is a free, easy-to-use video recording platform that works on all computers with webcams.

  1. Create a Loom Account:

    • Visit loom.com and sign up for a free account using your email.

    • ​

  2. Install Loom:

    • Download the Loom desktop app or add the Loom Chrome Extension (recommended for most users).

    • ​

  3. Prepare Your Slide and Presentation Area:

    • Have your static slide ready and open in full-screen mode (PowerPoint, Google Slides, or PDF viewer).

    • Be sure your camera and microphone are working.

    • Make sure your background is uncluttered and your space is well-lit.

    • ​

  4. Set Up to Record:

    • Open Loom and choose the “Screen + Camera” recording option.

    • Select the presentation window/slide to share, with your webcam “bubble” visible (resize/move as needed).

    • Ensure your entire slide will be visible for the entire recording. 

    • Adjust the camera to record from the waist up.

    • ​

  5. Record Your Presentation:

    • Click “Start Recording” and begin your presentation.

    • Speak clearly and pace yourself to keep within three minutes. 

    • Deliver your talk from memory; do not read from notes.

    • When finished, click

    • the Loom stop button.

    • Review & Trim:

    • Review your video. Only trim the very start and/or end to remove setup/pauses.

    • Do not make any other edits or add music, text, or effects.

    • Download or Save:

    • Download the video file from Loom to your computer in MP4 format.

YouTube is a free, easy-to-use platform where you’ll upload your final video. You’ll need a Google account to post your video, and it works on all devices.​

  1. Sign In to YouTube:

    • Go to youtube.com and sign in (use a personal or school account).

    • ​

  2. Upload Your Video:

    • Click the camera icon (“Create”) → “Upload Video”.

    • Select your Loom-recorded video file and upload.

    • ​

  3. Fill in Upload Details:

    • Title: Format as “FirstName_LastName_HS3MT2025”.

    • Description: Add a one or two-sentence project summary.

    • Privacy Setting: Choose Unlisted (so only people with the link can view).

    • Audience: If asked, select “No, it’s not made for kids” (unless otherwise directed).

    • ​

  4. Copy the Link:

    • When processing is complete, click “Copy Link” or save the URL.

    • ​

  5. Submit:

    • Fill out the official entry form.

    • Attach your static slide (.ppt/.pptx or PDF) and paste your YouTube video link.

    • ​

   Tips:

  • Watch your video from start to finish before submitting to ensure everything is clear and in compliance with the rules.

  • If you run into technical issues, contact organizers before the deadline.

  • ​
